Fundamentals of Islam

Understanding the core principles that define Islamic faith

Islam is a monotheistic religion centered on the belief in One God (Allah) and following the teachings revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The word "Islam" means "submission to the will of God" and "peace."

Founded over 1400 years ago in the Arabian Peninsula, Islam has grown to become the second-largest religion in the world with over 1.8 billion followers across diverse cultures and regions.

The Islamic faith is built upon two fundamental aspects:

  • Iman (Faith) - The six articles of faith that form the theological foundation
  • Amal (Practice) - The five pillars of Islam that guide worship and conduct
